CHC42308 Certificate IV in Mediation
About the program and qualification
The program includes the compulsory units of competency to obtain the qualification Certificate IV in Mediation. The program is also designed with opportunity for participants to undertake elective units as outlined in the qualification packaging rules.
The program offers a range of delivery and assessment options for participants depending on their individual needs, current skills and knowledge. Each participant will undergo a registration process that will assist in identifying and negotiating the best learning plan for the individual.
This program is beneficial for people required to apply the skills for mediation and conflict resolution in personal or professional settings. These may include mediators, human resource professionals, management committee, managers, team leaders, teachers, union representatives or officials, customer service staff, community and welfare workers
Option 1:
Learning and assessment
This option may best suit the inexperienced mediator. For example this person may have little knowledge or skills in conflict resolution or mediation process but is seeking new career pathway or wanting to value add to other skill areas.
This option requires the learner to undertake all or part (depending on the outcomes of the initial registration process) of the five day training program and assessment.
At anytime during the Learning and Assessment option the participant can seek to engage in a recognition process.
Option 2:
Assessment only
This option may best suit someone who has some or all the knowledge and skills of a mediator but perhaps has had a gap in their practice as a mediator – therefore currency of skills may need to be demonstrated through assessment.
This option requires the participant to undertake all or part (depending on the outcomes of the initial registration process) of a negotiated assessment process without necessarily attending the training program .
At anytime during the Assessment only option the participant can seek to engage in a recognition process or attend training
Option 3:
Recognition Assessment
(previously known as RPL Recognised prior Learning or RCC Recognised current competence)
Recognition assessment is always offered as a first option for potential participants in the program. We need to determine what you already know and can do before we decide on the best option for you to gain the qualification.
The Recognition only option may best suit a person who has current experience and skills as a mediator and can provide sufficient evidence to support this claim against the units of competency. GTP trainers and assessors are experienced in supporting participants through the recognition process.
When you register an assessor will spend time talking with you about each of these three [3] learning and assessment options and the Recognition process. It is important that potential participants read the Candidate Guide to Recognition and complete the self assessment checklist prior to the registration interview.
Training Delivery
The five day training and assessment program is delivered in two blocks of face to face sessions, including video conference for remote learners as well as a self-paced learning option. Some off site activities will be undertaken by learners that will contribute to both the acquisition of essential knowledge and demonstration of essential skills for assessment. Activities are designed to allow for a practical application of skills and are an essential part of the assessment requirements for this qualification.
Assessment:
For award of this qualification it is necessary that the participants demonstrate the essential mediation skills and knowledge in range of conflict situations and over a period of time.
Assessment will include demonstration of skills and knowledge facilitating mediation sessions on more than one occasion and will be via direct observation or video-taped mediation session in the workplace. You will also be required to complete worksheets and role play to demonstrate the application of essential knowledge and skills in the mediation process.
Simulated mediation and practical skills application in supervised practice form part of the critical aspects of assessment.
