CHC51708 Diploma of Counselling
Our Diploma of Counselling is the nationally-recognised qualification, endorsed by industry and included in the CHC08 Community Services Training Package. Due to the stringent regulations around nationally-recognised qualifications, you can be guaranteed of the integrity and quality of this qualification.
The Diploma of Counselling content includes the most significant counselling models and approaches utilised by specialists working in the field right now. Our counselling resources have been written and developed by our highly-experienced team of counsellors, psychologists and trainers. Therefore, the course content is in-line with the workplace requirements of the community services sector and recognised nationally as the Diploma level qualification in Counselling.

How to enrol
1. Download and complete the New Student Form and send through to us via post, email or fax.
2. A trainer will then contact you for an enrolment interview. A final course cost will be provided to you, based on the electives you have chosen to complete.
Note: Students are required to enrol and pay for 3 or more units in order to commence study in this qualification. Your Recognition Assessment Application will not be processed until payment has been received by GTP.

About the program and qualification
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to undertake generic counselling work involving skills and knowledge in counselling and high level communication in a range of commonly used modalities, referral and working within a case management framework.
To gain entry into this qualification it is recommended that candidates have sufficient relevant work experience to indicate likely success at this level of qualification in a job role involving:
- The self directed application of knowledge with substantial depth in some areas
- The exercise of independent judgement and decision-making
- The application of relevant technical and other skills
This option may best suit the inexperienced counsellor. For example, this person may have little knowledge or skills in the area of counselling but is seeking a new career pathway or wanting to value-add to other skill areas.
Assessment only
This option may best suit someone who has some or all of the knowledge and skills of a counsellor, but perhaps has had a gap in their practice, therefore currency of skills may need to be demonstrated through assessment.
Recognition Assessment
(Previously known as RPL - Recognised Prior Learning or RCC - Recognised Current Competence)
Recognition Assessment is always offered as a first option for potential participants in this program. We need to determine what you already know and can do, before we discuss the best option for you to gain the qualification.
When you enrol with GTP, our friendly training staff will discuss all of the above options with you.
Training Delivery
Distance study: Students can enrol and commence study in the Diploma of Counselling at any time throughout the year. As a GTP distance student, you are provided with individualised support throughout your learning journey with us via email, phone and Skype. We also schedule Supported Study Sessions in selected areas. Our Student Liaison Team will advise when and where these forums and workshops are taking place.
